Don't be fooled, many of you reading this blog will come down with the disease. You'll be forced to make lifestyle and diet changes that you 'don't have time for' now, or just don't 'feel like' making. Those who don't end up in serious trouble. There are 60 000 new cases of diabetes each year, in Canada alone.
Diabetes Type 2 Natural Treatment
Type 2 diabetes is getting increasingly common in developed countries. Other developing countries are seeing a fast emerging trend of the disease. Diabetes type 2 is caused by insulin deficiency and hyperglycemia. Although this disease is more common in adults over 40, it is increasingly seen in young teenagers and even children. This worrying trend is linked to the rising rates of obesity as well as inactivity.
MAJOR RISK FACTORS FOR TYPE 2 DIABETES
Here are some of the major risk factors for type 2 diabetes:
1) Age - As people age, the chances of getting diabetes type 2 is considerably higher. So for those who are older than 45 years, they are at a higher risk of getting the disease.
2) Overweight - Being overweight is another strong risk factor especially the person is heavier in the center.
3) Genetic factors - Having someone with diabetes in the family puts you at a higher risk.
4) Certain ethnic groups such as such as native americans, african americans, latino americans, pacific islanders and asian individuals who are at higher risk for developing type 2 diabetes.
5) People with high blood pressure and high cholestorol levels are at higher risk for type 2 diabetes.
6) Women at risk - women who have had a big baby of more than 9lbs are at higher risk of having type 2 diabetes. Other risk factors include women who had gestational diabetes, polycystic overian syndrom, irregular menstrual cycles and developing facial hair.
Of all these common risk factors, the most common are those who have family history as well as those who are gaining weight in the middle.
HOW TO CONTROL TYPE 2 DIABETES
Diabetes can be one of the hardest diseases to treat as it does not go away. It is always there with you, day in and day out. It will affect your daily life in what you do and what you eat. You have to be always conscious of your blood sugar as you can’t let it go too high to avoid complications. The next best thing you can do to help yourself is to control the disease.
The main cause of type 2 diabetes is insulin resistance and insulin deficiency. So the first thing you want to do is to help reduce the resistance of insulin. Exercising and losing weight can help reducing resistance to insulin and thus control type 2 diabetes. The other way is using pills which your doctor will recommend to you. However,due to the advance technology as well as rising awareness of using alternative way to treat type 2 diabetes, herbal and natural supplements are increasingly popular.
Here are a few of the natural/alternative herbs which have worked for many diabetics:
1. Bitter melon has long been regarded as the natural cure for diabetes. This fruit is known for its abilities to regulate blood glucose level. In fact, bitter melon is recommended by the Dept of Philippines as one of the best herbal medicines for managing diabetes.
2. Gymnema sylvestre is a herb native to the tropical forests of southern and central India where it has been used as a naturopathic treatment for diabetes for nearly two millennia. This herb has been shown to reduce blood sugar levels when used for an extended period of time. The active ingredient is thought to be gurmenic acid which has structure similar to saccharose. Extracts of Gymnema is not only claimed to curb sweet tooths but also for treatment of as varied problems as hyperglycemia, obesity, high cholesterol levels, anemia and digestion.
3. Cassia (Cinnamomum aromaticum or Chinese cinnamon) is a close relative to cinnamon. In fact, when cinnamon is said to be beneficial for diabetes, it is actually cassia, a less delicate version of the true cinnamon. A 2003 study published in the DiabetesCare journal followed Type 2 diabetics ingesting 1, 3 or 6 grams of cassia daily. Those taking 6 grams shows changes after 20 days, and those taking lesser doses showed changes after 40 days. Regardless of the amount of cassia taken, they reduced their mean fasting serum glucose levels 18–29%, their triglyceride levels 23–30%, their LDL cholesterol 7–27%, and their total cholesterol 12–26%, over others taking placebos. The effects, which may even be produced by brewing a tea from cassia bark, may also be beneficial for non-diabetics to prevent and control elevated glucose and blood lipid levels.
4. Chromium - Starting in the 1960s reports have shown that Chromium helps cells respond properly to naturally produced insulin. Current estimates show that 90% of Americans are lacking in this essential mineral nutrient.
5. Helps to improve circulation in the little capillaries in the hands and feet. Also valuable in balancing the digestion and strengthening the immune system.
6. Mulberry leaves is know to effectively help regulate blood sugar levels. Drink as tea can help to reduce absorption of sugar and carbohydrates. It is also a good source of antioxidants, vitamin C and carotene.
Beside these, there are others less known herbs for controlling diabetes. These herbs when combine together in the right balance can be very powerful in helping you manage diabetes. However, it is important to research on these supplements to ensure they indeed do what they claim. ProvenHealthCare.com provides informative reviews and articles on alternative methods of controlling diabetes.

Type 2 Diabetes isn't Serious - Right?
If you have type 2 diabetes and think you are not at risk for the 'common' diabetes problems - think again.
Symptoms of Type 2 Diabetes
The classic symptoms of diabetes (type 1 and type 2) are the following:
- fatigue;
- frequent urination;
- unusual thirst; and
- unexplained weight loss.
In type 1 diabetes, the symptoms usually progress quickly and are often dramatic. In type 2 diabetes, symptoms are slower to progress. However, it is important to note that many people who have type 2 diabetes may have no symptoms. These people may find out they have type 2 diabetes when they go to the doctor for another, unrelated problem.
The Health Risks of Type 2 Diabetes
Diabetes is a lifelong condition. High blood glucose levels over a long period of time can cause:
- blindness;
- hart disease;
- reduced blood supply to the limbs, leading to amputation;
- nerve damage;
- erectile dysfunction; and
- stroke.
Although there is no cure for diabetes, the condition can be managed by medication and/or insulin, and by making healthy lifestyle choices.
Risk Factors for Type 2 Diabetes
There is no single cause of type 2 diabetes but some factors can put you at greater risk. They include:
- being age 40 or over;
- being overweight (especially with abdominal obesity);
- having a family member who has diabetes;
- having had gestational diabetes;
- having given birth to a baby that weighed more than 4 kg (9 lb) at birth;
- high blood pressure;
- high cholesterol or other fats in the blood; or
- member of a high-risk ethnic group.

Five Ways to Prevent Insulin Resistance and Diabetes
A Couple people asked why I focus on Type 2 Diabetes. I guess the answer is simply that my husband was treated so 'offhandedly' when he was diagnoses. The nurses who read of the list of 'dos and dont's' were not able to tell him why. In fact, when he mentioned that one item was on the USA diabetes association's 'danger list' the nurse replied 'Oh, that is in the USA, not Canada." What? Does that mean that people in the USA have different types of Diabetes than Canadians? Of course not. The nurse just didn't care about my husband's health. She just wanted her paycheck.
Do not let the health aids apathy make you believe that Type 2 is a 'lesser' and milder form of diabetes. It is just not true.
Five Ways to Prevent Insulin Resistance and Diabetes
Insulin resistance has become one of the most widespread health problems in America. High-stress lifestyles, too much chemical laden, high-carb processed food and a lack of exercise have created an epidemic of insulin resistance and Type 2 Diabetes. But you don’t have to be one of those statistics!
Adopting these five simple lifestyle and diet changes corrects the problems that cause insulin resistance. If you are already insulin resistant, these five changes can prevent your condition from deteriorating into Type 2 Diabetes. And if you have already been diagnosed as a diabetic, it's still not too late to control blood sugar levels and improve your health with these vital five steps. Though each person is different, it is even possible for some people to reverse diabetes and restore normal pancreatic functions using these five steps.
1: Exercise!
30 minutes of brisk walking or similar exercise, 3-5 times a week, can prevent you developing insulin resistance or diabetes. If you're already insulin resistant or diabetic, exercise will help improve insulin sensitivity and lower blood sugar levels.
2. Avoid processed foods.
Packaged and processed foods contain at least two things that contribute to insulin resistance and eventually diabetes: high-fructose corn syrup and trans fats.
High fructose corn syrup is a chemically altered sugar that your body cannot use, but your pancreas still detects it as “sugar” and attempts to release it to your cells as fuel by secreting insulin. Consuming too much of it will send your blood sugar soaring, contribute to weight gain, hypertension (high blood pressure) and Type 2 Diabetes. This insidious stuff is in absolutely everything--even foods that you wouldn't suspect of containing sugar, such as crackers, salad dressings--even tomato sauce! Non-diet soft drinks and virtually all commercially packaged juices contain high levels of fructose corn syrup.
Trans fats are notorious for causing inflammation in the arteries and other problems. They also seem to contribute to the onset of diabetes, though how is not entirely understood. You'll find trans fat in most packaged cake and frosting mixes, many cookies and other baked products, non-dairy coffee creamers, and margarines. Virtually all "stick" type margarine contain trans fat--check the label, and you'll see. Your body cannot metabolize these chemically altered fats, which simply build up in your tissues, damaging cells and contributing to life-threatening arterial blockage.
3. Eat more whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies
Along with contributing important nutrients and aiding digestion, these foods can help to stabilize blood sugar and insulin levels by slowing down your digestive process. Unlike "simple" carbohydrates like white bread, potatoes and pasta--which quickly break down into sugar, causing your blood sugar levels to soar and insulin levels to spike--these more complex foods digest more slowly, causing sugar to be released more gradually into your blood, avoiding the destructive "sugar spikes" that come from eating starchy foods.
4. Add the "right" fats to your diet
Not all fats are "bad". In fact, fat is an essential nutrient which your body needs. The key is making sure the fat you add to your diet is the right kind of fat. Unlike synthetic or chemically altered "trans fats" or "hydrogenated fats", your body can digest "natural" fats, such as mono- and poly-unsaturated vegetable oils. Fats and oils high in "essential fatty acids" (EFAs), such as those found in salmon, tuna and avocados help reduce "bad" cholesterol levels and raise "good" cholesterol levels. Flax seed oil is another beneficial source of fat, as are those found in nuts. In additrion to fats, nuts and flax seed add other valuable nutrients to your dietary mix.
5. Add important nutrients to your diet
It's difficult for us to get sufficient nutrients from food alone--because processing strips food of nutrients, and because today's mass-production farming methods result in soil that is "depleted" of important minerals and vitamins. A good multi-vitamin/mineral supplement can help to solve this problem. But if you are insulin resistant or diabetic, you should be sure that your supplement contains certain trace elements and vitamins that help to control blood sugar and lower insulin levels. These include:
Chromium - in the form of chromium picolinate, it helps control blood sugar and insulin levels
Magnesium - this is the nutrient that most often seems to be lacking in both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetics, so evidence is strong that a lack of this trace mineral in your diet can be a determining factor in whether or not you develop diabetes, regardless of family history, lack of exercise, etc.
Manganese - its role in preventing diabetes and insulin resistance is still being researched, but lower than normal levels of manganese are another thing most diabetics seem to have in common, so it would stand to reason that getting adequate levels in a daily supplement might help to prevent the onset of diabetes.
Vanadium - aids in the metabolism of sugar and increases the insulin sensitivity of cells.
B Vitamins - Stress can deplete your body of all-important B-viatmins and cause blood sugar levels to rise. The B vitamins help to prevent stress-related damage.
B3 (Niacin) - is valuable for circulatory health, and also key to metabolizing carbs, fat and protein.
B6 - this powerful antioxidant helps protect you from the destructive effects of diabetes like nerve and heart damage.
B12 - vital to the proper functioning of nerve cells, B12 is another good anti-stress nutrient, and may actually help prevent the nerve damage (neuropathy) associated with diabetes.

Diabetes Stats: Binging
Most people do not understand the damage binging can do to your body, until you have Diabetes. One of the main causes of type 2 dibestes is binging. That is how my husband became diabetic. He will go for days only eating lightly, then he will pile a plate high at 10pm (between 10 - 12) and then sit down and wolf it all in. Or, he will go for weeks without touching pop, and then drink 2 or 3 bottles of pop in a weekend.
I read a report based on women, binge eating and diabetes.
Binge eating typically involves episodes of gorging large amounts of food as well as experiencing a loss of control of eating during those episodes. Binge eaters do not use vomiting or other behaviours to compensate for their binges.
'This study shows that binge eating disorders may contribute to the onset of diabetes,' Dr Kenardy said.

Know Something About Exchange Diet
I've been concerned with my husband's diabetes lateley. He has a hard time managing his eating disorders, mainly because he suffers from problems caused by an industrial accident 25 years ago. The problem is that companies were not as repsonsible for damage their neglegence did to workers, and workman's comp's only mandate was to get people back to work...even if it ment lying about the true extent of their injuries.
My husband, who had been dead for 10 minutes - twice - was deemed 'fit' to return to work 8 weeks later, despite the fact he had lost 28% of his nerves, and 10% of his muscle mass had been cut away. This left him on his own to manage the mental trauma. One way he did this was by eating to feel 'content.'
Know Something About Exchange Diet
The exchange diet is one that admits you to select and opt the foods you consume from each one of the six food groupings based on allot sizes.
Once you start consuming with these dieting, it may appear similar like numerous work but as you get used to the portions sizes and the basic exchanges that you come through will get gentler.
The exchange diet is a method of eating that provide diabetic with a set of guidelines necessary to eat healthy. A dietitian will help prepare and educate you on the exchange diet, the food groups and what substitutions you can make.
On the exchange diet all foods are divided into six food groups:
1. Breads and other Starches
2. Fruit
3. Vegetables
4. Dairy Foods
5. Meat and Meat Substitutes
6. Fats
The exchange part of the diet refers to being able to swap a food in one food group for another in the same group as long as you adhere to the serving suggestion. For instance half cup of cooked pasta can be exchanged for 2 rice cakes in one meal.
The list your dietitian gives you will be pretty complete but there are bound to be items not listed. In that case, you can call your dietitian for advice or keep a list of items that you need to know the proper serving size for.
Among all the benefits, one of the major benefits of this exchange diet is that the flexibility you have in your meal preparation. As long as you're consuming the proper number of exchanges from each food grouping you will keep up finer control of your blood sugar levels.
Whenever you experienced boring by having same kind of food all the time, then you love the exchange diet and feel that it might be for you. There are eternal openings to merge dissimilar foods collectively at meal times. You will be able to consume broccoli for dinner three nights in a course but come through a entirely a different meal each time.
One nighttime you can consume one little potato, half cup of steamed broccoli and a one ounce pork chop;q1 the second night consume half cup of boiled pasta tossed with half cup of broccoli and one ounce of soft-boiled chicken; and the third night try on one third cup of rice merged with half cup of broccoli and one ounce of lean ground beef.
The exchange diet as well acquires the guessing out of meal designing for diabetics. It is arrayed in a really straight forward and comfortable to understand way. Whenever there are foods that you can not ascertain on the exchange list handed to you by your nutritionist, call and check which grouping it consists too and what a right portion size is.
Initially you should consider and quantify your foods to ascertain you are applying the suitable amounts but as time falls out you will be able to do this by sight.

Home Remedies for Diabetes Treatment
Diabetes or madhumeh as per ayurveda is a disease in which there is improper functioning of insulin and as a result sugar level in the blood increases. Diabetes may cause heart problem, kidney failure, blurred vision if not treated timely. Diabetes is a lifelong, chronic health condition, in which the body is unable to break down sugar so the sugar levels are high in the blood, and also can't produce insulin or have resistance to insulin and therefore loses energy. It is also caused due to increase production of glucose level in the blood vessels and less production of glucose in the body, and also caused due to infections caused by viruses.
Home Remedies for Diabetes
Diabetes natural treatment: Eat 1 teaspoon of cinnamon daily.
Yemeni med: Soak 1 teaspoon of fenugreek seeds (Hilba) in 1 cup of water at night. Drink the water in the morning on an empty stomach and eat the seeds. Very good for diabetes because it works like insulin.

Diabetes and the Drugs to Control it Could Shorten your Life
I'm often asked, "How can I live to be 100 years old?" My answer is simple, "Just say no to prescription drugs and learn how to control insulin and blood sugar."
Why? Because the populations that live the longest are naturally highly sensitive to insulin. Conversely, those who die the youngest from conditions such as obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer are grossly insensitive to insulin or are taking a prescription drug.
In the US, the biggest threat to longevity is type II diabetes caused by high levels of blood sugar and insulin resistance. It has become a nationwide epidemic that can steal 11 to 20 years from a person's lifespan.
To curb the threat, physicians are madly prescribing anti-diabetic drugs like Avandia and Actos. With so many people using them, scientists have learned two valuable lessons about longevity.
First lesson: You cannot use these drugs to increase lifespan.
In addition to eliciting a moderate drop in blood sugar, anti-diabetic meds damage the cardiovascular system.
According to a recent study, Avandia users had a whopping 30-40% increased risk of heart attack and other heart-related adverse events (heart failure) compared to patients treated with placebo.(1) This risk is due to the drug's effect of lowering vital hemoglobin levels.
Hemoglobin is used by the body to transport oxygen throughout the entire 100,000 miles of veins, arteries, and capillaries in the adult body. Without hemoglobin, a condition known as ischemia sets in. This is a fancy term for "suffocation." Clinically, heart attack or heart failure can be the result.
The prescription drug Actos has the same mechanism of action as Avandia -- they both work to reduce insulin resistance. Not surprisingly, it also carries the same risks. Health Canada sounded the alarm about this class of drugs as early as 2001! But unfortunately, the warning has not yet reached the American public.
Commenting on this unannounced danger, the U.S. Congress stated that, "the FDA's apparently callous disregard for the safety of diabetics taking Avandia is very reminiscent of the Agency's failure to move on Vioxx when substantial safety signals first became known. Like Vioxx, Avandia may have unnecessarily risked the lives of tens of thousands of Americans."(2)
Second lesson: You can fix insulin receptors naturally to increase lifespan.
This simply means that insulin receptors found on individual cells have the ability to be "re-tuned" to the insulin message. We learned this from anti-diabetic drugs that can increase insulin sensitivity by jump starting inactive or dying cells. But this benefit from drugs doesn't outweigh the risk of heart attack. Fortunately, if a drug can do it, so can Mother Nature. This is a little-known fact in medicinal chemistry.
Mother Nature always provides the "lead" in the meticulous process of drug discovery. Meaning, before there is a man-made drug for a given ailment, there is a natural substance that will do the same thing.
In the process of designing anti-diabetic drugs, Big Pharma surveyed a myriad of natural products to find a lead compound that re-tuned the insulin receptor. Among them was a substance called corosolic acid, derived from the banaba plant(3) grown in Southeast Asia.
Corosolic acid has proven safe and effective for increasing insulin sensitivity. Remarkably, users have been shown to not only lower blood sugar and insulin levels but also melt fat and build muscle in the process. But what's really important is that by taking corosolic acid instead of anti-diabetic drugs you will lower the risk of heart attack and naturally improve insulin sensitivity. That means years may be added to your life!
Of course, lifestyle habits such as regular exercise and minimizing sugar intake are pre-requisites to the success of increasing insulin sensitivity and significantly extending your lifespan.
(You can find corosolic acid as an ingredient in several natural products sold in health food stores for glucose control and weight management.)

How Diabetes Is Affected By Stress
The ill effect of stress on health is well known.It may be physical, mental or emotional stress, they all have an undesirable effect on the body.And if a person is suffering from a disease or illness, stress becomes even more dangerous.
The physiological effect of stress on the body is that it alters the hormonal environment as well as hormonal levels.For a disease like diabetes this spells great trouble.In order to control diabetes it is important to exercise control over the hormones particularly insulin and stress can create an imbalance here.
When the body is stressed, stress hormones are released to burn up more stored energy from the body. However, sometimes in diabetes patients these stress hormones i.e. adrenalin and glucocorticoid are unable to reach these energy stores.This may be due to improper response to stress that often diabetes patients show.Due to this the released glucose is not accessed and broken down but left free to move in the blood stream.This increases the blood sugar levels, which makes diabetes management a big problem.
The negative impact of stress on diabetes is also emphasized by the lifestyle changes that it brings about.So, along with increasing blood sugar levels stress is instrumental in inducing undesirable dietary and lifestyle changes.
It is a fact that when stressed people turn to comfort food.A person with diabetes and stress may throw all caution to the winds and indulge in junk foods or other high calories foods to soothe themselves, which means big trouble for them. Diabetes control calls for strict dietary regulations and schedules to be maintained and stress can throw this out of gear.
Another negative association between diabetes and stress is in respect to exercise.A diabetes patient under stress may not feel like exercising, which is so very essential for the disease control.The blood sugar levels will further shoot up, aggravating the condition.With such drastic and undesirable lifestyle and dietary changes owing to stress, diabetes control becomes a big ask.
Stress also disrupts the sleep pattern of a person, which is a potential source of problem for a diabetes patient.
In order to get a hold on diabetes it is also important to get a hold on stress.Firstly, religiously stick to an exercise schedule because exercise is a known stress buster.This will be beneficial for both diabetes and stress.Relaxation techniques and deep breathing are very useful tools to combat stress so, you can consider employing meditation and yoga to alleviate your problem.
It is said that laughter is the best medicine and indeed it is.So, hang around with close friends, watch a comedy show or read a joke book and laugh to your hearts content to see your stress disappear.
A positive attitude in life always helps, so make it a part of your personality.To cope better with diabetes and stress, paying heed to the above mentioned points will help.So control diabetes and stress and lead a healthy life.

6 Reasons Why Exercise Is Important
You need to get in more exercise, probably. It will improve your life in a myriad of ways. But the first step towards embarking on a fitness plan is always motivation. And to get motivated, you have to understand why you need to change your diet or invest the time into exercise. Here are just a few of many ways exercise change your life for the better.
1. Exercise Improves your Stamina
Exercise don't just improve you stamina for physical activities either. It helps you last longer on work projects, school assignments, and anything else that might require a great deal of sustained concentration. It does this by training your body to use its energy reserves more efficiently, and thereby giving more energy to do the things you do every day. Every action will feel easier and take less effort. And you will have more energy to engage in your favorite hobbies.
2. Exercise Prevents Diseases
Our bodies are actually built for exercise. A lot of it. If we don't give it the exercise it craves, a lot of its functions don't work as well as they should, and the immune system is one of them. Exercising regularly makes your body more capable of fighting of colds, flu, and infections. It also reduces your cholesterol level, which will make you less prone to suffering a heart attack or stroke.
3. Exercise Strengthens and Tones Your Body
When you look better, you feel better. And when you feel better, everything in your life improves. You get along better with better people. You feel more capable of tackling challenges. And it can even help boost your career. It will also increase your bone density, which will make your bones less prone to breaks and help keep you more active as you age.
4. Exercise Improves Flexibility
Better flexibility lead to better balance and coordination. This wont just help you engage in your favorite physical activities, but it will actually help you just get through your day more effortlessly. It's a wonderful feeling to go through every day without ever having to worry about a sprain.
5. Exercise Improves your Overall Quality of Life
Ask anyone who went form being sedentary to working out regularly: exercise helps you a thousand different ways that all add up to a happier you. If you have never experienced the joy and contentment of a fit lifestyle, you owe it to yourself to start a training routine right now. It doesn't have to start out huge. Just plan out some cardio for tomorrow, like going for a little walk. When you get used to that, add in some weight training. Eventually, as your fit life continues to develop, you will find yourself more confident, happier, and with more energy than you had ever thought possible.
6. Exercise Controls Weight
When you weight train and do cardiovascular exercise regularly, your fat inevitably drops and your muscles grow. When you do this, you burn more calories actively, and you help boost your metabolism so you burn more calories around the clock. When combined with a smart diet, this inevitably leads to significant weight loss.

Diabetes - A Metabolic Disease
Diabetes is a metabolic disease that affects the way our bodies use digested food for growth and energy. The food that we eat is broken down into a form of sugar called glucose, which is the main source of energy for the human body. This disease does not allow the body to create enough or properly process insulin, a hormone produced by the pancreas allowing glucose to enter all the cells of the body and be used as energy. For those that are diabetic, sugar builds up in the blood instead of moving into the cells. Some of the surplus sugar is carried through the urine, out of the body, wasting the energy, and resulting in the body losing its main fuel source.
Type 1, Type 2, and Gestational diabetes are three main forms of diabetes mellitus, which is the medical term for this sickness.
Type 1 diabetes is categorized as an autoimmune disease, in this case, one that attacks and devastates the beta-cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. These types of diabetics are dependent upon insulin. This form of the syndrome is commonly known as "Juvenile" diabetes, but is not the most common form, only attesting for about 10 - 15% of those suffering from the illness. Type 1 is more frequent among children. Some common symptoms of type 1 diabetes mellitus are excessive thirst and urination, distorted vision, sudden weight loss, and severe exhaustion. The symptoms of type 1 usually develop over a short period of time.
Type 2 diabetes, the most common form, is often related to obesity, old-age, a sedentary lifestyle, genetic history of the disease, ethnicity, and a history of gestational diabetes. Those with type 2 usually have a pancreas that produces enough insulin, but the body, for an unidentified reason, does not use it properly. This improper use of insulin is commonly referred to as insulin resistance. Throughout time the pancreas will begin to fail in producing insulin and sugar will build up in the body, making this main fuel source unattainable. Being the most common form of the debility, type 2 accounts for 90 - 95% of the diabetic population, and is on the increase. Though this ailment is mostly widespread among obese adults it is also being diagnosed in children and adolescents. Some of the most common symptoms of type 2 diabetes mellitus are severe exhaustion, excessive urination, distorted vision, and enhanced hunger. Compared to type 1, these symptoms develop at a more gradual pace.
Gestational diabetes is a form of the epidemic that can be acquired by women who are pregnant. This form of the condition usually disappears after the pregnancy is over, but leaves the mother with a 20 - 50% possibility of developing type 2 diabetes. Women who have a family history of developing the disease are, of course, the more likely candidates for diabetes. The disorder is primarily caused by hormones that are generated by the placenta and amplify the mothers' resistance to insulin. The percentage of pregnant women in the U.S. who will develop gestational diabetes is 3 - 8%.
There are a plethora of ways to help people who have diabetes stay as healthy as possible. Eating a healthy diet, exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, controlling your blood sugar, and taking any required medicine are all ways to tame the disease and keep living your life.

Type of Diebetes & Diabetic Diets
Diabetes is the process of your body not processing food properly. This disorder can effect your energy and growth. Food we eat turns to glucose and when you have diabetes the food you eat is not broken down into glucose. Glucose is the basic source of energy for the human body.
There are 3 types of diabetes, Type-1, Type-2 and Gestational diabetes. The worst type and the one you will most likely not want to have is a Type 1 because this is where your body turns against itself. In Type 1 diabetes the bodies immune system turns against your internal organs and attacks the insulin produced in the pancreas. People with Type 1 diabetes need to take insulin shots daily in order to stay alive.
Type 2 diabetes is the most common because it is often caused by being overweight and today’s society there is a big obesity problem which helps contribute to this type of diabetes. In Type 2 the body makes enough insulin but for some reason the body does not use much of it, if it uses any at all. Symptoms include blurred vision, weight loss, fatigue and wounds that take a long time to heal.
The last kind of diabetes is called Gestational Diabetes. This is most often encountered with women who are pregnant or are late in their pregnancy. This form of diabetes usually will go away after the birth of the child. However, women who get this form of diabetes are more like to develop Type 2 diabetes later on in life.

Avoiding a Diabetic Coma
A diabetic coma is no joking matter and should be treated as a medical emergency.
A diabetes induced coma can occur when a diabetic is not taking precautionary measures and regulating his or her diet and insulin intake. It can occur if a person's blood sugar is too low. It can also occur if their blood sugar is too high. If you're a diabetic, you know that it's extremely important to maintain a balance between a high and low blood sugar.
If you're a diabetic and your blood sugar is too low, you may experience diabetic ketoacidosis. Sugar acts as fuel for the body and when a diabetic is deprived of that sugar, their body starts breaking down fat to produce energy. This causes ketones, or acids that can cause a coma if they're left untreated.
An extreme drop in blood sugar can cause hypoglycemia. Hypoglycemia deprives your brain of glucose, which it needs to function. Typically when this happens, a person passes out. You don't have to be diabetic to experience this. Extreme exercise or drinking too much alcohol can also produce this unwelcome result.
If you're a diabetic and your blood soars, you may also end up in a diabetes induced coma. This is called diabetic hyperosmolar syndrome. This causes your blood to get extremely thick, which makes it hard for sugar to pass from your blood to your urine. To make this transfer, your body starts going through a filtration process that takes fluid away from other body parts. This causes dehydration and fainting.
If any of these three instances are left unchecked, a diabetic may slip into a coma. It's extremely important to catch these things before a person's body gets to this point.
Comas don't just happen without any warning. A diabetic who's headed toward a coma will show signs that they're not feeling well. You should take not of the following signs: dry mouth, nausea, shortness of breath, vomiting, increased thirst, hunger, sweat, nervousness or irritability, lightly.
If these things are occurring, it's important to get to a doctor immediately especially if you haven't been paying attention to blood sugar regulation. A diabetic coma can result in death, so don't ignore the signs.

Diabetis and Your Emotions
My husband has had suffered from diabetis for several years. He even went to 'court ordered anger management' - and all because the doctors never gave him a diabetis test until this year.
We were appalled to learn that all the emotional problems and depression my husband suffered over the last few years was becuase he should have been on a strict died and wasn't.
If you become irritable, depressed, sleepy, or angry when you skip breakfast, or spike your sugar/salt intake, then it is time to force the doctors to look for a medical problem. You could save yourself years of heartache.
