Working Moms

There are more and more women becoming moms in their later years. It is quite common to find 40 year old mothers with young children. I believe that older women can raise better children. They are more confident and educated. They are less likely to be frustrated, or unnerved by the latest trend, or their friend's party trends.

There are websites starting to cater to older mothers. GirlMogul is designed to give working mothers a social network, while letting daughters shop online. Girl Mogul is an attitude. It is a resource to let moms and their younger daughters shop together and have 'fun' that doesn't put demands on your time, or strain the pocket book.

Life After 40 -

I am over 40 with two children. My mom was old at 40. She was 32 when I was 12. But, I can see why. We lived on red meat and potatoes. Oranges were a Christmas treat. She bought a case of pop a week - we never had juice. She never exercises. She never 'lived'...she just cleaned house, ate, and watched television with dad.

I don't want to follow my mom's footsteps. I am over 40 now and I want to be a good mother to my girl. I want to continue shopping with her for a decade, and enjoy it.

I had a wake up call a couple of years ago. I started noticing it hurt to walk down the stairs. I ran out of breath. Since then I have started eating better, exercising more and I have started re-educating myself. I started a home based business that grew from writing novels and freelance writing, to editing, to blog advertising and running a CMS system, and then after much struggling, I started my own book publishing company.

I am still a wife and mother. I never abandoned that aspect of life, but now, I am a woman. If you wondered if there was life after 40 - the answer is ... yes...

I Saved $800 On My Insurance

I have often read the posts about searching for online insurance quotes, but never did anything about it until our current insurance company increased our premium by $500 without any explanation.

I went online to one of the car insurance quotes site, typed in my information, and within 10 minutes had 4 quotes, with the same coverage, for $800 less than my insurance company's new rates, and $300 from what I use to think was a 'good quote.'

I went to a comparison site for two reasons. First, I knew it wasn't a phishing scam. I went to a couple of 'off site' insurance brokers - but it is so hard to know whether a broker's site is legit.

Chained To a Desk

Most of the people I work with live their lives behind a desk. No one needs to spend time repeating the health and emotional problems this can cause. The main thing we need to realize is that it only takes 10 minutes to remain healthy.

I am a full time, self employed, owner of three businesses. I do not expect to retire at 65. To me - that would feel like giving up on life. However, I want to be a part of the population expected to remain active until I am in my 80s, and even live past 100. I love life.

Ten minutes, that is all I need to invest, every day, for an extra 20 years worth of life. It is not much, but some days, it almost seems impossible. Everyone puts demands on my time, and some days, I collapse in bed after 15 hours behind the computer.

Motivation can be hard. But, it won't be as hard as quitting work because my body gave up on me.
