Learn to Do-It-Yourself

I have to stop and remind people that not all home based businesses are 'online.' In act, there are many people who start a new career after they retire, just to keep active. I've taken many online courses, sometimes for business, other times I take a course to learn skills I need.

Last weekend we had to fix our toilet. We did call a plumber, but they wouldn't come out for 2 weeks. Have you ever gone 2 weeks without a toilet? Why? When Plumbing Training is so affordable through online schools, then why pay the tradesmen?

We did hire a plumber once and were very upset. Not only did he charge us $800 for 4 hours work, but he changed what we wanted - without asking. We had reversed the taps in the kitchen because my husband does the dishes, and he is left handed. When the plumber left, we realized that he had re-welded the pipes so the taps were 'right.' The sad thing is that we didn't realize this until my husband gave himself a mild burn.

I don't mind paying people 'fair wage' but to be ripped off, and then to have something we originally paid to have installed changed, without asking us, is just too much. After four years of dealing with tradesmen we have started to learn how to do home repairs ourselves.

Oh - and that toilet my husband was fixing last weekend. It works just fine.
