Osteoporosis and Weight Training

Reports suggest that a combination of weight training and proper nutrition, after a woman turns 30, can drastically improve a woman's quality of life. We discussed this in the last blog. I know one case where a woman had listened to her doctor. She was diagnosed with early signs of osteoporosis, but didn't head the doctor's warnings.

Sometimes, weigh training can reverse the effects of aging. Pauline has osteoporosis. She needs to endure a painful treatment every month that leaves her in pain and helpless for three days. She is the first one to admit that her doctor told her - 10 years ago - to start working out, to build bone density. She wishes she had listened.

There are some good treatments out there, but as my grandmother would say, 'An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.' Women need to understand that fitness for them is not just about looking good and remaining attractive. It is a battle for 'quality of life' as they grow older.

It is no secret that exercise reduces the chances of older people suffering from many health problems, but it is a major contributor to the prevention of osteoporosis.
