Sprains and Strains

Sprains and Strains are a part of any fitness program. Active people learn to live with the pain, and get on with their day. People who are just starting a fitness program make mistakes that can cause them problems for weeks to come.

Sprains and Strains rarely seems serious, but they are inflammations, and should be taken seriously. Stretching can reduce the chances of straining a muscle when working out. If a muscle is strained, use ice to reduce the swelling, and then give the muscle a rest. Sprains are stretched or torn ligaments.

All injuries should be looked at. Even experienced athletes make sure that the injury isn't worse than they think at first. A pain pill should be taken, especially if it has an anti inflammatory agent. However, a problem arises when people stop feeling the pain. Pain is the body's way of forcing us to let sprains and strains heal. When the pain is gone, we do not know if the injury is being aggravated. This means that we need to be extra cautious when we are on painkillers.

Everyone wants to get back to the fun as soon as possible. If the injury is a minor one, then maybe there is no worry. However, if the wrist, shoulders, elbows, knees, or ankles are injured - see a sports therapist or a doctor. I found some great information on the Tylenol website.
