he first thing we need to explain is that an 'older woman' in the fitness world is any woman over thirty years old. Many women ignore their bodies between the age of 30 and fifty, then wonder why they have so much trouble undoing twenty years of neglect. Just because your body is still thin, looks good in a dress, and your face still has a youthful glow, doesn't mean that the ravages of age have passed you by.
There is one thing that women can do to protect themselves from many of the threats faced by women today, including osteoporosis.
Weight Training for Women
Research has proven that weight training has physiological and psychological benefits when added to a healthy lifestyle. The sooner a woman starts taking action, the less she will suffer when she grows old.
Many women in the 40 - 50 category can already see a startling contrast in society. When we were young, our 'old' aunts had humps and walked with canes. These women were ancient in our eyes, but in reality, they may have been as young as 60 - not even the current retirement age. Now, as our friends grow older, we see retired people vacationing, working around the house - at 65, few of today's population are even thinking of settling down.
So, what is the difference? Strength training.
