What Happens When Mom Crashes?

I don't know what it is like in your house. My house would fall apart if I crashed, emotionally or physically. Mom can't get sick. Mom can't have problems. She is infallible. We can dump all our problems on mom and she can handle it. Mom can handle anything. She will never need help
Until I can't.

I have been hospitalized before, never drug or alcohol recovery, but that might have been because they were not popular when I ended up in the hospital. The plain fact is, I couldn't handle everything. I grew up in a house where were were all taught to be independent, to stand on our own feet. I don't ever remember my mom doing 'mom' things like making my school lunch, or even hugging me. But, I do remember her rewarding my achievements.

Then I ended up with a husband whose mother was the typical 'mother hen' and could (on the surface) take care of everything. But - if you ask me, I think she needs a trip to a rehab center. Unfortunately, she can't go with a clear conscience, because ....Mom can't get sick. Mom can't have problems. She is infallible. We can dump all our problems on mom and she can handle it. Mom can handle anything.
