Piano Man was founded in 1993. Over the past decade, Piano Man earned the distinction of being the friendliest store to browse and shop for piano products and services in the Boston area. Isn't it nice that some people haven't forgotten what customer service is about?
Music is one thing that we can carry with us through our entire lives. My first piano teacher was 72 years old when I started taking lessons. She not only taught piano, about a year after I started taking lessons, she purchased a b3 hammond organ and started taking lessons.
I've often told people how she taught me that we are never too old to learn, and that life never ends until the day we choose to end it.
She surrounded herself with music. She learned new instruments. She taught me to love music, and she taught me never to quit. She was a widow, on a fixed income, with limited mobility. But, she continued to shape lives and teach people the true meaning of happiness and joy.
Her words to me the day her organ arrived were 'many people die long before they go to the grave. They give up on life. Never stop living.' Those words shaped my life.
I went on to become a professional singer, and play piano in several churches, but I can say that I never saw or heard any organ which 'sang' as beautifully as her Hammond.
Sponsor: Today’s post was sponsored by The Piano Man. I thank them for giving me an opportunity to share a story from my past, and pass on the encouragement my first piano teacher gave me. Life is about ‘paying it forward.’ We never want to stop sharing, and we never want to stop living. This is something that the music industry remembers. Our music styles may change as we grow older. Our tastes may change, but we can carry our love of music with us forever.
